Aetna’s two main Florida contracts each fell from 4.5 to 4 stars for 2027. Its plans are built around the CVS Health pharmacy network. Aetna is leaving Alachua, Baker, Columbia and Levy counties for 2027, so members there need a new plan.

How to Choose a Medicare Advantage Plan in Florida

  1. Read your Annual Notice of Change. With 51 fewer plans in Florida for 2027, check whether your plan is changing or ending.
  2. Check the star rating of your exact plan. Ratings are set by contract, and several large Florida contracts dropped half a star for 2027.
  3. Confirm your doctors and hospitals. Network changes for 2027 include Lee Health leaving UnitedHealthcare and NCH leaving HealthSpring and Wellcare.
  4. Compare total yearly costs. A $0 premium plan can still have higher copays. The Part D drug cap is $2,400 in 2027.
  5. Think about travel. If you split the year between Florida and another state, an HMO may cover only emergencies outside Florida. A PPO or Original Medicare with Medigap may work better.

Medigap in Florida

If you’d rather have Original Medicare, a Medigap plan helps pay your share of costs. Florida doesn’t have a Medigap birthday rule, so outside your first six-month Medigap open enrollment period and other guaranteed-issue situations, insurers can ask health questions. Compare Florida Medicare Supplement plans and see how to switch from Medicare Advantage to Original Medicare.
